The Darfur Initiative for Justice and Peace announced the killing of 15 civilians and the injury of dozens more following a drone strike that targeted a civilian transport vehicle traveling from the village of (Khami) to the town of Abu Zaid on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
In a statement, the initiative accused the Islamic Movement and the army of executing the attack as part of what it described as the continued targeting of civilians and widespread violations against residents in villages and towns
The statement added that the shelling operations, which it said target women and children away from military sites, reflect an escalation of violence and abuses against civilians, and raise questions about the silence of the international community and human rights organizations, as well as the failure to enforce international laws and agreements targeted of protecting civilians.
The initiative stressed that the continuation of what it described as (outside the legal system) represents a clear challenge to international law, calling on international and human rights organizations to take a more effective stance against the crimes committed against civilians.
