Sudanese voices Sun/May /31st [Sudanese voices follow up] Rufa’a Tribal Council Condemns Security Measures in Um Baror and Calls for Dialogue The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Rufa’a Tribes has issued an urgent statement condemning what he described as arbitrary measures carried out by authorities in Um Baror area of Gedaref State. The statement said that security operations conducted in the area had created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among civilians, particularly women and children, noting that the humanitarian situation had been adversely affected by the recent developments. The council also criticized the deployment of more than 50 armed vehicles in the area, describing the move as an unjustified escalation that could further heighten tensions among local residents. The chairman called on the authorities to halt the current security measures and instead pursue dialogue and peaceful means to address existing disputes and challenges, stressing that such an approach would help preserve stability and prevent further deterioration of the situation. The statement further urged members of the Rufa’a community to stand in solidarity with those affected and provide support to families impacted by the events, citing the difficult humanitarian conditions facing the area. These developments come amid growing tensions in eastern Sudan, as calls continue for restraint, peaceful solutions, and greater protection for civilians.
