Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump on African Affairs, reaffirmed the United States' support for a comprehensive political process in Sudan led by civilian forces, describing it as the cornerstone for achieving lasting peace and stability in the country.
In a press statement, Boulos said that Washington joined 12 countries and international organizations in issuing a joint statement following consultations held by the Quintet Mechanism with Sudanese political stakeholders. The initiative aims to support efforts toward launching a Sudanese-led dialogue that would pave the way for a broader and more inclusive transitional process.
He noted that these efforts build on the outcomes of the Berlin Conference on Sudan, which succeeded in mobilizing $1.5 billion in humanitarian assistance. Boulos stressed the international community's continued commitment to supporting a humanitarian ceasefire, ending the conflict, and establishing a democratic civilian system of governance in Sudan.
