Sudanese Voices Friday/14th/may [Quoting The Monitor] The Ugandan President, *Yoweri Kaguta Museveni* , has issued a decree appointing new judicial experts to senior leadership positions. These appointments aim to ensure the stability of the judiciary and fill vacancies resulting from recent retirements and promotions. The decisions included the appointment of Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice, ending a five-month administrative vacuum. Justice Kawumi will move from his current role in the Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court to formally head them, alongside his administrative duties as Deputy Chief Justice. He succeeds Flavian Zeija, who was elevated to Chief Justice following the retirement of Alfonse Owiny-Dollo. In a related context, Ms. Agnes Alum was appointed as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary. This position had remained vacant since Sarah Langa Siu was appointed as a High Court judge last year. Alum’s appointment concludes a transitional period of more than a year, during which Ms. Pamela Lamunu Ocaya served in an acting capacity. These appointments come during a major transitional phase for Uganda’s judicial institution. Official procedures for Justice Kawumi to assume his duties are expected to begin immediately following confirmation by the Ugandan Parliament, a move set to strengthen the rule of law and ensure administrative continuity at the highest levels of the judiciary.
