The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has revealed that approximately 42,000 Sudanese children are unaccompanied or separated from their families within Sudan and neighboring countries due to the ongoing war.
The children are distributed across Chad (24,000), Ethiopia (7,000), Egypt, and South Sudan (6,000 each), in addition to around 2,000 children in Uganda.
The report stated that these children face serious risks, including exploitation, violence, and lack of family care, as well as severe difficulties in accessing education and healthcare amid the deterioration of infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has provided protection services to approximately 329,000 children, including 21,000 who have undergone (best interest) procedures.
With around 4.5 million Sudanese displaced, the humanitarian response faces a 78% funding gap, with an urgent need for $66 million to support child protection programs in 2026.
