Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative Warns of Worsening Humanitarian Crisis
The Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative has warned of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the southern areas of the Blue Nile region as a result of the ongoing conflict, noting that more than 150,000 people have been displaced to Damazin, Roseires, Wad Al-Mahi, and other locations.
In a statement, the initiative said that the areas of Kurmuk, Bau, and Geissan are experiencing severe humanitarian conditions, marked by shortages of food, clean water, and healthcare services, particularly among returnees from South Sudan and individuals stranded along the Ethiopian border.
The initiative called on humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and provide relief assistance to affected populations. It also urged the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to expedite the registration of stranded individuals and ensure their protection.
Furthermore, the initiative appealed to the United Nations and the African Union to press for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to facilitate aid delivery. It also called for an end to arbitrary arrests and for the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.
