The United Nations welcomed the United States’ announcement of an additional $1.8 billion in funding to support humanitarian response efforts, describing the move as a significant step toward delivering life-saving assistance to millions affected by humanitarian crises worldwide.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the new funding would strengthen the ability of humanitarian teams to reach people in the most severely affected and urgent areas.
Meanwhile, Tom Fletcher explained that more than $1.68 billion has already been allocated to support 18 humanitarian crises, aiming to assist over 22 million people while accelerating funding mechanisms to ensure rapid response.
Fletcher noted that the humanitarian sector is facing mounting challenges due to limited resources and growing needs, pointing out that more than 300 million people worldwide currently require humanitarian assistance.
In the same context, the United States stated that the new funding is intended to enhance efficiency and transparency within the UN system while linking humanitarian spending to sustainable impact and U.S. national interests.
