Local groups and activists have expressed deep concern over ongoing demolition and confiscation operations in North Khartoum (Al-Kadro), which have affected around 365 residential homes, resulting in the displacement of a large number of families without clear alternative housing solutions.
Affected residents say the targeted homes showed no signs of structural damage or deterioration and were not informal settlements, raising questions about the criteria and reasons behind the decision, amid difficult humanitarian conditions facing the population.
As a result, entire families, including children and the elderly ,have been displaced and are currently living in harsh conditions outdoors under the scorching sun, with no clear shelter arrangements or alternative housing provided, further worsening the humanitarian situation in the area.
Local sources have also circulated allegations and concerns regarding unfair practices in the implementation of these measures, calling for a transparent and independent investigation to clarify the circumstances and criteria behind the decisions, and to ensure that citizens’ rights and living conditions are not harmed.
Community voices are further calling for an immediate stop to any additional measures that could worsen the crisis, and for urgent solutions to be provided for affected families, while ensuring that humanitarian and social considerations are taken into account in all housing-related decisions.
